Reminiscent of a butte landscape in the southwest United States or a Native American wedding vessel, two seemingly separate forms are actually linked below the surface. The white and saffron arcs form an unbroken bond. Grounded in the darkest warm brown, like the most fertile earth, these depths hold undefined and endless potential. The wide saffron arc represents fire and as impurities are burnt, the color comes to symbolize purity. Light sandy stripes come in from the left side of the picture and continue all the way through in a perpetual flow.

The difference between stable and metastable equilibrium is that the stable state is truly unchanging given indefinite time, whereas the metastable state may be changing, but too slowly to be observed. Diamonds fall into the category of metastable materials. At atmospheric pressure, over eons, a diamond will gradually transform into graphite (source: The Geochemical Society).
In this painting, the large, light pink diamond seems precariously balanced against the striped patterns and fluid blue form, suggesting an underlying tension or flux. The interplay invites contemplation on the metastable nature of our personal realities–while we may seem to stay the same or want things to stay the same, we are always on the precipice of change.
The deep black background with pops of warm tertiary hues conveys depth and mystery, and symbolizes the vast expanse of deep space. The curve of the circle and intersecting lines represents cosmic forces converging, but ordered with a simplicity resembling a geometry lesson in a textbook.

Enceinte means ”a fortified enclosure or area confined within limits” and it also means “pregnant.” This composition explores concepts related to the requirements of boundaries and containment as essential to processes that enable growth/transformation and which must be completed before crossing the threshold into the next iteration of existence. Examples include the cocoon, and the womb.
The red clay and black background creates an enclosed space holding a “figure”–a minimal abstract representation of a woman with a womb–signified by the arches curving in toward the “body” and open to the unknown.
The angular, architectural forms evoke feelings of structure, rigidity, and man-made environments that shape, sometimes restrict, as well as provide protection. Sometimes we might think we are stuck, but maybe we are held in place while we undergo deep level/subconscious changes.
The curved lines and organic shapes in pastels introduce elements of flow and soften the overall composition. The bright yellow polygon symbolizes illumination, aspiration or the yearning to transcend self-imposed limits.

This piece holds strong geometric forms that are softened by the feminine palette of pinks, reds and ochres. The black shapes add an inner stability while the outer forms reach to merge with the white sky that exits out through the top.
