A bold, minimal, geometric abstract composition resembling a chapel or castle with an entry way. The harmonized palette includes yellow ochre, indian yellow, antique gold, and cream with strong black and white stripes.

A minimalist occult symbol type object resembling a wonky dream catcher. An illusionist, a stringed seer, a weirdness for the wall. A black rhomboid gives it power.

acrylic on canvas
48 x 60 inches
A bold symmetrical geometric arrangement of triangles, circles, diamonds and polygons with a palette of leathers and woods. The suspended circle in the middle is a mediation on the strange lightness we feel when departing a situation or place. It's the moment of lift-off that is exhilarating, extremely peaceful and empty, yet pregnant with potential.

This painting is the only time I have employed such geometric rigor in creating true symmetry. It probably stems from a need for order, control, and the desire to impose logic and structure on the present. However, even within the tight composition, the assertive black lines and chevron motifs radiate outward signaling expansion and boundless potential.
The elaborate patterns are inspired by Art Deco aesthetics, and the reduced angular shapes with minimal detail upon the smooth, opaque surface are reminiscent of work from the Precisionist era.

The elegant seed or tear shape is surrounded by Art Deco-ish line work in black. On close inspection, the lines are a bit rough and worn. The loose, light aqua brushwork in the background frees up the tightly controlled symmetry.

Center in the heart and what is there? In the darkest dark? All the way back to the ground from which we come—the same ground that is your birth place and your death place—what do you know from that ultra-quiet hotspot? It’s not gray, fuzzy, or complicated. It’s not opinion, speculation, or partisan. And it’s not vulnerable, fragile, or precarious. From that vast space, in the deepest fibers of your being, you know the answers.

This pink and black bulb-like shape balances and shields itself. There's a mother/child, strength/vulnerability, seed/shell dynamic.
